Employment Lawyer - In House - #2185694
Robert Walters
My client, a national firm, is looking for an experienced Employment Lawyer - In House Part Time to join its HR function in-house. This is a rare chance to be the go-to legal adviser on people matters, with a seat close to the HR Director and senior leadership. The hours are genuinely flexible. You could work three days a week, school hours or term time only, which makes this a strong option for senior lawyers who want a high-quality role without a full-time commitment.
The role
You'll give commercially minded employment law advice across a broad range of matters, helping the business move forward with confidence while balancing risk and opportunity.
The successful Employment Lawyer Part Time will:
- Advise HR colleagues, partners and senior leaders day to day on contentious and non-contentious matters
- Support employee relations work, including disciplinary, grievance, whistleblowing, performance and absence management
- Guide organisational change projects, including restructures, redundancies and TUPE
- Support acquisitions and strategic employment law initiatives
- Draft, review and update contracts, policies and related documents
- Manage employment tribunal claims, working with external advisers where needed
- Deliver training and practical guidance to HR and business stakeholders
- Contribute to wider legal risk, compliance and governance work
- Be based in Birmingham
About you
- Qualified lawyer with 7+ years' PQE
- Background in private practice employment law or in-house supporting HR teams
- Strong technical knowledge, with the ability to give clear, pragmatic advice
- Experience partnering with HR and advising senior stakeholders
- Sound commercial judgement and a solutions-focused approach
- Confident handling a varied, complex caseload
- Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels
You might be a private practice lawyer ready to make the move in-house, or an experienced in-house lawyer wanting a fresh challenge. Both are welcome.
What's on offer
- Part-time, flexible working pattern (22.5 hours per week) with a base in Birmingham City Centre
- Flexible benefits package, including options to buy extra annual leave, cycle to work, healthcare, critical illness cover, a group pension, an employee assistance programme and a season ticket loan
- Retail and well being perks, plus online learning and development
A collaborative, values-led culture with a strong record on diversity and inclusion
