Interim Credit Controller

Location: Birmingham

Contract: 3 months initially

Working pattern: Hybrid, approximately 3 days per week in the Birmingham office

Hourly rate paid via umbrella £17-£20 dependant on experience

Start: ASAP (within 2 weeks)

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Interim Credit Controller to join a business during a period of significant change and transformation.

This is not a standard BAU credit control role. The successful candidate will be brought in to take ownership of a substantial aged debt portfolio, working through historic balances, resolving outstanding queries and driving cash collection.

You will need to be comfortable picking up a ledger quickly, understanding the issues behind difficult or aged accounts and using your own initiative to get problems resolved.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a portfolio of aged and historic debt
• Proactively chase outstanding balances and maximise cash collection
• Investigate and resolve complex customer and account queries
• Identify issues preventing payment and work with the relevant internal teams to resolve them
• Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies
• Build relationships with customers to resolve outstanding balances
• Prioritise higher-value and problematic accounts
• Maintain accurate records of collection activity, disputes and agreed actions
• Provide clear updates on progress, risks and outstanding issues
• Work independently and proactively within a fast-paced, changing finance environment

What We're Looking For

• Strong previous Credit Control / Accounts Receivable experience
• Demonstrable experience dealing with aged debt or ledger clean-up projects
• Confident taking ownership of difficult or problematic accounts
• Excellent query resolution and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Comfortable working independently without significant day-to-day supervision
• Proactive, tenacious and commercially minded
• Able to quickly identify the right people internally and externally to resolve issues
• Previous interim or project-based credit control experience would be advantageous
• Available at short notice or immediately available would be ideal

This would suit an experienced Credit Controller who enjoys getting stuck into a challenging ledger, solving problems and being able to demonstrate a tangible impact on cash collection.
