Trainee Recruitment Consultant
Sage Associates | Birmingham City Centre | Full Time | Immediate Start
This is a role for someone who wants to build a serious career in recruitment and people development. You will be the first point of contact for candidates joining a fast growing company, which means you will directly impact people's lives by opening doors to career changing opportunities. If you are confident, articulate and driven by long term progression, this role offers genuine career development in a high performing, high reward environment.
Sage Associates is looking for a Trainee Recruitment Consultant to join the HR team in Birmingham City Centre. You do not need recruitment experience, but you must be comfortable speaking to people all day, building relationships quickly and staying motivated by performance targets. This is not an administrative position. This is a career focused role where you will develop skills that will serve you for life: communication, resilience, discipline, influence and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
About Sage Associates
Sage Associates has grown rapidly over the past few months and now manages ongoing recruitment demand across Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Liverpool, with another market expected to open soon.
Our HR team works closely with our business development and operations teams to source, screen and onboard new starters at pace. As we continue to expand, we need someone who can support this growth, take ownership of candidate pipelines and become a key player in our recruitment operation.
What the Role Involves
You will be based in Birmingham City Centre but will help cover recruitment activity across all our markets. Your day will be fast paced and people focused. You can expect to spend around five hours per day on calls, speaking to candidates at different stages of their journey.
This is where you will develop real skills. Every conversation will teach you how to read people, adapt your communication style, handle objections with confidence and build rapport across different personalities and backgrounds. You will learn how to attract talent, move people through a process and ultimately change lives by connecting the right candidates with the right opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contacting candidates and scheduling first stage company presentations
- Following up with candidates after interviews and keeping them engaged throughout the process
- Moving suitable candidates through the recruitment stages with professionalism and urgency
- Supporting second and third stage interview bookings and managing candidate expectations
- Assisting with job offers, onboarding and new starter orientation as you develop
- Managing candidate communication across multiple recruitment pipelines
- Handling diary coordination, document processing and payroll related administration
- Learning to source candidates through platforms such as LinkedIn and Indeed
You will be the very first step in people's success stories. You will see candidates join the company, develop internally and progress into leadership roles. That progression starts with you. Your ability to identify talent, communicate effectively and manage a high volume recruitment process will directly contribute to the company's growth and your own career trajectory.
What We Are Looking For
You do not need previous recruitment experience. We are looking for someone from a call centre, customer service, telesales, sales support, appointment setting, phone based sales, customer care or hospitality background who is ready to step into a long term career in recruitment and people development.
You must be:
- Confident and articulate on the phone with the ability to adapt to different people
- Comfortable with high call volumes and working towards daily and weekly targets
- Resilient and able to handle rejection without losing momentum
- Well organised with strong diary management and follow up discipline
- Able to take control of conversations, build rapport and influence outcomes
- Energetic, professional and genuinely interested in people
- Motivated by performance, progression and long term career growth
You should enjoy:
- Speaking to people all day and learning how to connect with different personalities
- Working in a busy, target driven environment where your results are visible
- Developing interpersonal skills that will serve you throughout your career
- Being part of someone's success story from the very beginning
Training and Progression
Full training will be provided from day one by the HR Manager and senior HR leadership. You will work closely with the HR team and learn each stage of the recruitment process step by step. Training will cover candidate calls, screening techniques, interview coordination, onboarding support, document handling, payroll administration and candidate sourcing.
There is a clear performance based progression route for someone who proves they can manage high volume recruitment activity, take ownership of their responsibilities and support the company's growth. If you perform well and demonstrate leadership potential, you will be given more responsibility, more autonomy and the opportunity to shape the future of our recruitment function.
This is a genuine long term career opportunity. You will develop skills in communication, negotiation, influence, resilience and people management that will set you up for success in recruitment and beyond. The better you perform, the faster you progress.
Company Perks and Rewards
At Sage Associates, we believe in rewarding high performance. Work hard, get rewarded harder.

- Networking sessions with senior leadership and high performers across the business

This is a company that invests in people who deliver results. If you perform, you will be recognised and rewarded.
