We are seeking an experienced Estimator or Senior Estimator with a strong background in preparing and delivering accurate, detailed cost estimates for highways infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of civil engineering and highway construction processes, excellent commercial acumen, and a proven ability to work across pre-construction and tendering phases. Strong experience developing and delivering estimates is essential. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team for a market leading company, contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a 3-month rolling contract, based on a standard 40-hour working week. The client prefers the successful candidate to be based in their Birmingham office, though attendance at either their London or Manchester office two days per week is also acceptable. This role is deemed Inside IR35. Key Responsibilities:
·Develop, prepare, and submit detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for highways projects (including new build, improvements, and maintenance schemes). ·Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation to inform and support costings. ·Liaise with internal teams including design, planning, procurement, and project management to gather accurate estimating data. ·Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes and ensure competitiveness and compliance. ·Conduct risk assessments and identify allowances and contingencies. ·Participate in bid/no-bid decision making and strategy meetings. ·Support and advise the commercial team on project cost management and forecasting. ·Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing, and benchmarking tools. ·Provide handover documentation and support the transition from pre-construction to delivery teams. Key Requirements:
·Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within the highways or civil engineering sector. ·Strong understanding of NEC contracts and public sector tendering procedures. ·Proficiency in estimating software such as Causeway, Candy, or similar tools. ·Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. ·Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously. ·Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. ·Knowledge of pricing structures, labour, plant, and material costs relevant to highways work. ·Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (HNC/HND/Degree level desirable). ·Full UK driving licence (desirable for site visits and meetings).
