Court of Protection Solicitor, Birmingham, Excellent Work + work life balance

The opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor to join a highly regarded, nationally recognised specialist private client law firm in Birmingham.

The firm has an outstanding reputation for its Court of Protection work, with a team recognised by both Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500. Its lawyers are regularly involved in complex, high-value matters and are known for combining exceptional technical expertise with a genuinely compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable clients and their families.

Despite the quality and complexity of its work, the firm offers a refreshingly different working environment, with an excellent emphasis on work-life balance, flexibility and employee wellbeing.

This is an opportunity to undertake work of a standard typically associated with leading national practices, while benefiting from the supportive, collaborative culture of a specialist firm.

The role

The successful candidate will join an established and growing Court of Protection team, specialising in Property & Affairs matters.

The role will involve managing a varied and technically interesting caseload, including:

  • Managing professional deputyships for vulnerable individuals, including clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries or lack mental capacity.

  • Overseeing substantial compensation awards and complex financial affairs.

  • Advising on applications to the Court of Protection, including deputyship appointments, statutory wills and gifts.

  • Managing property transactions, financial investments and long-term financial planning on behalf of clients.

  • Working closely with families, professional advisers, case managers and other specialists to achieve the best possible outcomes.

  • Supervising and supporting junior colleagues, contributing to their development and the continued growth of the team.

There will also be opportunities to contribute to business development, strengthen professional relationships and play an active role in the future direction of the department.

About the firm

This is a specialist private client practice with an established national reputation and an impressive track record of handling sophisticated Court of Protection matters.

The firm's Court of Protection department is ranked in both Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500, with several senior lawyers individually recognised for their expertise. The wider practice has also received industry recognition for its exceptional approach to vulnerable client care.

Unlike many traditional law firms, the practice focuses on a select number of closely related private client disciplines, allowing its solicitors to work alongside genuine specialists who understand the complexities of their work.

The firm is particularly well regarded for its collaborative culture, approachable leadership and commitment to professional development. Solicitors are encouraged to develop their own expertise, contribute ideas and take an active role in shaping the department.

Work-life balance is another major attraction. The firm promotes a genuinely flexible approach to working, with an emphasis on autonomy, trust and supporting employees in maintaining a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives.

About you

Applications are welcomed from experienced Court of Protection Solicitors who can demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience handling Property & Affairs matters, ideally including complex professional deputyships.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Court of Protection procedures and the management of vulnerable clients' financial affairs.

  • Experience supervising, mentoring or managing junior colleagues.

  • Excellent client care skills and a compassionate, practical approach.

  • The confidence to manage a varied caseload independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

  • An interest in developing professional relationships and supporting the continued growth of a highly regarded department.

Benefits

  • Excellent work-life balance and a genuinely flexible working culture.

  • Hybrid working, with a minimum of one day per week in the Birmingham office.

  • High-quality, complex Court of Protection work within a nationally recognised team.

  • The opportunity to work alongside highly regarded specialists and develop your own professional reputation.

  • Strong career progression opportunities within a growing, supportive practice.

The opportunity to progress

This position would particularly suit an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor looking for the next stage in their career without sacrificing their work-life balance.

It offers the chance to join a respected specialist practice, undertake genuinely rewarding and technically challenging work, and play an important role in the continued development of an already successful department.

For someone seeking the quality of work and professional recognition associated with a leading national firm, but with a more flexible, personal and supportive working environment, this is an opportunity well worth exploring.
