Join Metro's Ocean Freight team during an exciting period of growth. We are currently recruiting for our Imports team to support the movement of international import shipments into the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ocean Freight professional to take ownership of import shipments from origin through to final delivery, whilst delivering an exceptional customer experience and building strong relationships across the global supply chain.

What You'll Be Doing

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth movement of international ocean import shipments, working closely with customers, overseas agents, shipping lines and internal operational teams to deliver outstanding service levels.

You will take ownership of shipments from booking through to final delivery, proactively managing customer expectations and ensuring freight moves efficiently through the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing ocean import shipments from booking through to final delivery.
• Coordinating inbound shipments with overseas agents, shipping lines, customs brokers, hauliers and warehouse teams.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, providing regular shipment updates and resolving queries.
• Preparing, reviewing and processing import documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Monitoring vessel arrivals and proactively managing delays, service issues and customer expectations.
• Supporting customs clearance activities and ensuring all shipment milestones are completed on time.
• Building strong customer relationships whilst identifying opportunities to enhance service levels.
• Collaborating closely with internal operational teams to ensure seamless execution of shipments.
• Maintaining accurate shipment records and updating internal systems throughout the shipment lifecycle.
• Contributing to process improvements and helping drive operational efficiency across the department.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for an experienced Ocean Freight professional who is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment. You'll bring a proactive approach, strong attention to detail and a desire to make a positive impact within the team.

To Be Successful, You'll Ideally Have:

• Previous experience managing Ocean Import shipments within a freight forwarding environment.
• A strong understanding of ocean freight import processes and international supply chain operations.
• Experience coordinating with overseas agents, shipping lines, customs brokers and transport providers.
• Knowledge of import documentation and shipment milestone management.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build long-lasting client relationships.
• Experience managing multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously whilst maintaining accuracy.
• Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with customers, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
• A proactive and solution-focused approach to resolving operational challenges.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Confidence using freight forwarding systems such as CargoWise and Microsoft Office applications.
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
