Blue Diamond Recruitment is working with a highly regarded planning consultancy to recruit a Senior Planner to join its sociable and tight knit team in Birmingham.

The business is extremely busy, working on an exciting and diverse portfolio of projects across the city centre and wider Midlands region, spanning residential, retail, office, leisure and other development sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake planning appraisals, advising clients on the likelihood of securing planning consent and the most appropriate strategy.
• Conduct research and analytical work, producing high quality, client facing reports.
• Support the management of project teams, typically comprising architects and other specialist consultants.
• Prepare planning applications, including drafting Planning Statements and Statements of Community Involvement.
• Prepare representations on behalf of clients in response to Local Plan consultations and other planning policy matters.
• Research, prepare and submit appeals against refusals of planning permission.
• Assist in preparing proofs of evidence for senior colleagues acting as expert witnesses at planning inquiries.
• Manage project work effectively, contributing to fee earning targets and delivering work to a high standard.
• Support the preparation of tender proposals and submissions to secure new projects.
• Contribute ideas for business development, client research and the continued growth of the team.
• Work independently and collaboratively, building effective relationships with clients, colleagues and external consultants.
• At least two years' experience in planning, gained within either the private or public sector.
• A good understanding of the development management process and planning policy, including Local Plan preparation.
• Strong report writing, research and analytical skills.
• Excellent project management, organisation and time-management abilities.
• Confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage professionally with clients.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.
• A proactive, commercially aware approach and the confidence to take ownership of your work.
• A collaborative attitude, with a genuine interest in contributing to the wider team and improving working practices.

A relevant honours degree, an RTPI-accredited planning qualification and RTPI Chartered Membership would be advantageous.
