The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Director to join a leading law firm and play a key role in driving its continued growth and commercial success.

This is a senior strategic appointment for someone who understands the legal sector, knows the Birmingham and wider West Midlands market, and has the commercial vision to identify new opportunities, strengthen client relationships and support the firm's long-term ambitions.

Working closely with the firm's Partners and senior leadership team, you will take the lead on business development strategy, helping to raise the firm's profile, develop key client relationships and identify opportunities to grow both existing and new areas of practice.

The Role

You will be responsible for developing and delivering a clear business development strategy, working alongside Partners to identify target markets, pursue new business opportunities and maximise the firm's commercial potential.

Key responsibilities will include:

Developing and implementing the firm's business development and growth strategy.

Working closely with Partners and practice group leaders to identify and convert new business opportunities.

Building and strengthening relationships with key clients, referrers and strategic contacts across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Identifying opportunities to increase market share, develop new revenue streams and expand the firm's client base.

Leading on strategic client development, pitches, tenders and key account management.

Enhancing the firm's profile and reputation within the regional legal market.

Using market intelligence and competitor analysis to identify emerging opportunities and areas for growth.

Supporting Partners in developing their own business development capabilities and achieving commercial objectives.

Measuring business development performance and ensuring activity translates into tangible results.

The Candidate

This role requires someone with a strong understanding of the legal sector and an established knowledge of the Birmingham and West Midlands market.

You will ideally bring:

A legal background, with a strong understanding of the private practice legal market and how law firms operate commercially.

Proven experience in a senior business development, marketing or client development role within a law firm.

Excellent knowledge of the Birmingham and wider West Midlands legal and business communities.

A strong network of regional contacts and the ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders and decision-makers.

A track record of developing and implementing successful business development strategies.

Commercial acumen, strategic thinking and the confidence to influence and challenge at Partner and board level.

The ability to identify opportunities, build momentum and deliver measurable growth.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded business development professional to make a real impact within an ambitious law firm, working directly with senior leadership and Partners to shape the firm's future direction.

For someone with the right legal background, regional market knowledge and strategic approach, this role offers the opportunity to influence growth, develop meaningful client relationships and make a genuine difference to the firm's success.
