Insure Recruitment

Are you an experienced insurance professional looking to take the next step in your career?

We are working with an award-winning global insurance business in Birmingham that is looking for an Insurance Account Manager/Account Handler to join its established team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your commercial insurance career, managing and supporting a strong SME portfolio across a broad range of commercial insurance classes, with exposure to clients within the public sector.

The opportunity

You will be responsible for servicing an existing portfolio of clients, with a strong focus on client retention, account development and identifying cross-selling opportunities.

The role would suit someone with existing commercial insurance experience, although the business is also open to candidates from high-volume personal lines, underwriting or claims backgrounds who can demonstrate strong client-facing skills and the potential to transition successfully into commercial broking.

Responsibilties

  • Preparing documentation for new customers, capturing their insurance requirements accurately.
  • Obtaining renewal terms, researching suitable alternatives and preparing renewal information for Account Managers.
  • Coordinating renewal quotations across an existing client portfolio.
  • Handling mid-term adjustments and responding to client requirements.
  • Managing insurer queries and confirming policy coverage.
  • Processing policies and ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately.
  • Supporting Account Managers in delivering a high level of client service.
  • Identifying opportunities to retain, develop and cross-sell within existing accounts.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience within commercial insurance or strong personal lines, preferably across a range of products.
  • Experience working in a sales-focused or target-driven environment would be advantageous.
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines.
  • A proactive, process-driven approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Acturis is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality and handling customer information appropriately.

The business is also happy to consider candidates who don't have a traditional commercial broking background.

This could include:

  • High-volume Personal Lines professionals – particularly those with experience handling more complex/manual policies rather than predominantly e-trade business.
  • Underwriters – particularly those with strong client-facing skills who are looking to move into broking.
  • Claims professionals – particularly those who have developed strong customer relationships, negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
  • What matters most is your insurance knowledge, client-facing ability, attitude and willingness to develop within commercial insurance.

Salary & benefits

The role offers a highly competitive salary, depending on experience and suitability. You will also benefit from:

  • Pension contribution scheme.
  • 25 days' annual leave, with the option to buy or sell additional holiday.
  • lots of flexible benefits, including gym membership, season ticket allowances, etc.
  • Excellent career progression, with the opportunity to develop towards handling mid-market and corporate clients.
  • Professional development and support towards relevant CII qualifications.
  • The role offers a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days in the office and 3 days from home.

During the initial three-month induction period, the successful candidate will be expected to attend the office 3 days per week to support training, development and integration into the team.

Why apply?

This is a great opportunity for an insurance professional who wants to build on their existing experience and progress into broader commercial insurance, within a well-established global business that offers genuine long-term development opportunities.

If you're commercially minded, client-focused and ready for your next step, we'd love to hear from you.
