Role – Landscape Planning Director

Location – Birmingham

Our client is an established, award-winning landscape architecture and environmental consultancy based In Birmingham. They looking to appoint an experienced Landscape Planning Director to play a key role in the continued growth of its landscape planning team.

With a multidisciplinary team of landscape architects, urban designers and ecologists, the practice has developed a strong reputation for delivering large scale residential developments, strategic masterplanning and landscape led design projects across the UK.

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious consultancy where landscape planning is central to the design process, rather than simply a supporting service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the team, develop existing client relationships and play an important role in securing and delivering new projects.

THE ROLE

• The position will involve a combination of technical leadership, project oversight, client management and business development, working closely with the wider design and environmental teams.
• Responsibilities will include:
• Leading the preparation and review of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and Townscape and Visual Impact Assessments (TVIA)
• Providing strategic landscape planning advice on major residential developments, new settlements and mixed-use schemes
• Overseeing landscape capacity studies, Green Belt reviews and landscape character assessments
• Contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and supporting projects throughout the planning process
• Working collaboratively with landscape design, masterplanning and ecology teams to develop appropriate landscape strategies
• Managing key client relationships and representing the practice at meetings and consultations
• Preparing fee proposals, managing project budgets and overseeing project delivery.
• Providing technical guidance, quality assurance and mentoring to junior members of the team
• Supporting business development and identifying opportunities to expand the landscape planning service

LANDSCAPE PLANNING DIRECTOR KEY SKILLS

• Chartered membership of the Landscape Institute (CMLI)
• Extensive experience in landscape planning, particularly LVIA and TVIA
• A strong understanding of UK planning policy, EIA procedures and landscape assessment methodologies
• Experience working on strategic residential developments and large-scale masterplanning projects
• Previous experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships
• The ability to provide technical leadership and oversee the work of a growing team
• Strong communication skills and a commercial approach to project delivery
• An interest in business development and contributing to the longer-term growth of the practice
