Trainee Paraplanner

NJR Recruitment is working with a growing financial services business to recruit a talented Trainee Paraplanner to join their technical team.


This is an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Paraplanner or experienced Financial Services professional looking to develop their technical expertise within a supportive and forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate will produce high-quality technical research, analysis and suitability reports, supporting Financial Advisers in delivering appropriate outcomes for clients across a range of case complexities.


To be considered you will need to have had exposure in to writing suitability reports and be working towards the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.


The Role


Working closely with Financial Advisers and under the guidance of a Senior Paraplanner / Technical Team Lead, you will take adviser instructions and turn them into clear, well-researched and compliant technical solutions.

You will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and take on increasingly complex cases over time, supported through mentoring, coaching and structured development.


Key Responsibilities


  • Reviewing adviser instructions following client meetings and ensuring the client's needs, objectives and agreed course of action are clearly understood
  • Conducting detailed technical research and analysis to identify appropriate solutions
  • Using research, risk profiling and cashflow modelling tools to support recommendations
  • Producing clear, accurate and client-focused suitability reports
  • Preparing client-specific illustrations and key features documents
  • Obtaining supporting quotations and checking valuations and relevant summaries
  • Maintaining knowledge of investment and pension products, including SIPPs and SSASs
  • Supporting research across platform and non-platform solutions
  • Keeping up to date with relevant product, legislative and technical changes
  • Preparing and maintaining compliant client files
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, diaries and records
  • Processing new business, applications and policy variations
  • Producing correspondence for client and provider queries
  • Monitoring DFM performance where required
  • Working closely with Advisers, Account Executives, Client Servicing, Operations and Compliance teams
  • Escalating complex or unfamiliar technical queries appropriately
  • Supporting project and ad-hoc client work as required


Client Outcomes & Compliance


You will play an important role in ensuring recommendations are properly researched, evidenced and documented.

This will include:

  • Ensuring suitability reports clearly demonstrate that recommendations reflect client objectives, risk profile, capacity for loss and personal circumstances
  • Supporting the delivery of good client outcomes and Consumer Duty requirements
  • Maintaining high professional standards when dealing with clients, advisers and colleagues
  • Working in line with FCA requirements and relevant financial services legislation
  • Following internal compliance, financial crime, data security and Treating Customers Fairly procedures
  • Maintaining appropriate knowledge and competence for the role
  • Completing mandatory training and compliance testing within required timescales
  • Maintaining an accurate CPD record


About You


The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous Paraplanning or technical administration experience within financial services
  • Alternatively, strong working knowledge of financial planning concepts, products and strategies
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • The ability to interpret client information and translate it into clear written recommendations
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce jargon-free suitability reports
  • Confidence using IT systems and the ability to learn new technical tools
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to manage a busy workload and work to deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and confidence working closely with Advisers
  • The ability to escalate technical queries when appropriate
  • A positive and adaptable approach to working within a fast-paced environment


Essential Qualification

  • Candidates must be working towards the Diploma in Financial Planning (DipFA) or an equivalent professional qualification to be considered for this position.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

  • Having achieved the Diploma in Financial Planning (DipFA) or equivalent
  • Experience with platform and non-platform investment and pension products
  • Knowledge of SIPPs and SSASs
  • Experience with cashflow modelling
  • Experience working on more complex cases, including IHT, CGT, bonds and estate planning
  • Experience using research, risk profiling and financial planning software
