Caretakers / Site Staff Required – Birmingham

The Supply Register is currently recruiting for Caretakers / Site Staff to work across schools in Birmingham and surrounding areas, with opportunities available for candidates who can start as soon as possible.

We are looking for reliable, practical and proactive individuals with previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities or site management. Previous experience working within a school or educational setting would be highly desirable.

The Role

Responsibilities may include:

• Opening and securing school buildings
• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs
• Completing routine Health & Safety and site checks
• Ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, secure and well maintained
• Setting up and moving furniture and equipment
• Supporting with deliveries and general site duties
• Maintaining external areas, playgrounds and grounds
• Reporting faults and arranging repairs where required
• Liaising with contractors and external suppliers
• Supporting fire safety and emergency procedures
• Responding to day-to-day site issues and using initiative to resolve problems

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities or site-based role
• Good practical and DIY skills
• Understanding of Health & Safety procedures
• Reliable, proactive and hands-on approach
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Previous school experience is preferable but not essential
• Available to start as soon as possible

Safeguarding & Vetting Requirements

As these positions are based within schools, all candidates must successfully complete the required safeguarding and compliance checks.

Candidates must be able to provide:

• A minimum of two satisfactory employer references covering the previous 24 months
Three references if they have not previously worked with children
• A professional character reference to cover any periods of employment gaps
• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service is preferred; otherwise, candidates must be willing to obtain a new Enhanced DBS
• Right to Work in the UK
• All other required safeguarding and compliance checks
