Quality Inspector AS9100

Birmingham

to £33,500

Our client has been established for more than 50 years and are recognised market leaders in the manufacture of low volume, high precision complex machined parts for a range of aerospace and automotive applications and are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Quality Inspector to complement their professional Quality team. Based in Birmingham and reporting to the Quality Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that manufactured products, materials, and processes comply with AS9100 aerospace quality management standards, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and regulatory requirements.

The Quality Inspector role involves performing inspections, conducting audits, documenting quality results, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maintain the highest levels of product quality and compliance, with key responsibilities including (but not being limited to):

  • Performing first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Inspecting incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Verifying compliance with AS9100 quality management system standards.
  • Using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, bore gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), specifications, and quality plans.
  • Completing inspection reports and maintaining accurate quality records.
  • Identifying, documenting, and reporting non-conforming products and materials.
  • Supporting root cause analysis and corrective action investigations.
  • Participating in internal audits and support external customer and certification audits.
  • Monitoring manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Verifying certifications, traceability records, and material documentation.
  • Collaborating with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve issues.
  • Assisting in continuous improvement activities using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Ensuring compliance with aerospace, customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.

To be considered for this varied and challenging Quality Inspector position it is envisaged the successful candidate will hold relevant Technical certification or equivalent experience and demonstrate at least 2 years or more experience of undertaking quality inspection within an aerospace, aviation, manufacturing, or precision engineering environment - essentially with a working knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems and of conducting First Article Inspections (AS9102).

With the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications and with a strong understanding of GD&T, as Quality Inspector you will have a high level of proficiency in using precision measuring equipment along with experience of non-conformance reporting and corrective action processes. You will also be a competent user of the MS Suite of packages and QMS, with the internal auditor certification AS9100 qualification proving distinctly advantageous, as will CMM operation and programming experience and knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma manufacturing methodologies.
