We are looking for a proactive and organised Family Team Legal Secretary to join a growing Family & Childcare team based in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with legal secretarial or administrative experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and modern legal environment.

About the Role

As a Legal Secretary, you will play a key role in supporting fee earners and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Family & Childcare department. You'll work closely with colleagues, clients, counsel and external professionals while providing high-quality administrative support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Typing correspondence and legal documents from digital dictation.
  • Preparing, formatting and proofreading documents.
  • Maintaining electronic files and document management systems.
  • Managing diaries and arranging appointments for fee earners.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing telephone calls professionally.
  • Welcoming clients and visitors to the office.
  • Processing Legal Aid (CCMS) applications and related administration.
  • Managing expert invoices and fee notes.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal procedures and best practice.
  • Providing general administrative support as required.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:
  • Previous experience as a Legal Secretary or in a similar administrative role.
  • An interest in Family and Childcare Law (experience within this area is desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Fast and accurate typing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workload and perform well under pressure.
  • A professional, friendly and client-focused approach.
