Job Description

We are looking for an Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of environmental compliance and best practice throughout the construction of HS2. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help ensure that project activities comply with environmental legislation, permits, licences and consents while contributing to the project's sustainability objectives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early stage environmental professional looking to develop their career on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects, gaining experience across a wide range of environmental disciplines within a complex construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and environmental monitoring activities, identifying potential environmental risks and supporting the implementation of corrective actions where required.
  • Provide practical environmental advice to site teams to support compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences and project requirements.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting environmental performance data and key project metrics.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems in line with project and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation, review and update of environmental management plans, risk assessments and supporting documentation.
  • Support environmental training and awareness initiatives for project personnel.
  • Participate in site audits, inspections and compliance reviews, helping to identify opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Work closely with specialist environmental disciplines, including ecology, noise and vibration, air quality, waste, water and land quality teams.
  • Support investigations into environmental incidents, near misses and complaints, assisting with the development of corrective actions.

What You'll Need

  • Experience working in an environmental role within construction, infrastructure, utilities, engineering or a related sector.
  • Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and environmental management principles.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems, ideally ISO 14001.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with site teams and stakeholders.
  • Organised and proactive approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to undertake regular site visits and inspections.





Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography, Ecology, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP/IEMA, CIEEM or equivalent) or working towards professional membership would be advantageous.

Desirable

  • Experience within major infrastructure, rail, utilities or civil engineering projects.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Experience supporting environmental audits, inspections or compliance monitoring activities.
