Senior Support Worker – Residential Care Home (EBD)
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and motivated Senior Support Worker to join our Residential Care Home for young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). This is a rewarding leadership role where you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality, person-centred care while leading and supporting a dedicated staff team.
You will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that supports young people to develop positive behaviours, emotional resilience, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote, model, and develop a positive, trauma-informed and child-centred culture, ensuring young people are at the heart of everything we do.
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of Support Workers to ensure consistently high standards of care and practice.
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing residential environment that promotes emotional well-being, dignity, and positive behaviour.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of individual care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments.
- Provide direct support to young people in their daily routines, including:
- Mealtimes
- Education and appointments
- Recreational and therapeutic activities
- Life skills development
- Build positive and professional relationships with young people, their families, social workers, education providers, and other external professionals.
- Administer medication in line with prescribed guidance and maintain accurate medication records.
- Actively participate in team meetings, training, and supervision, contributing to continuous service and staff development.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures, residential childcare standards, and organisational policies at all times.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Children & Young People, or equivalent – Mandatory
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience working in a Residential Care Home, preferably with EBD or complex needs.
- Supervisory or senior care experience (preferred).
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and trauma-informed care.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and resilient in challenging situations.
- Flexible availability to work a rolling rota, including:
- Days
- Nights
- Sleep-ins (5 per month – mandatory)
- Weekends and bank holidays
- Driving licence (preferred).

- Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week on a rolling rota
- Probation Period: 6 months
