Role Overview:
As a Gate Engineer working with our client, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of fire-rated doors, shutters, gates, and associated passive fire protection systems. You will ensure that all work is carried out to the highest standards of safety and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install and commission a variety of fire-rated gates, shutters, and doors in line with project specifications and current fire safety legislation.
• Perform regular inspections, servicing, and testing to ensure continued compliance and functionality of fire safety equipment.
• Diagnose and repair faults in gate systems and components, including mechanical and electrical elements.
• Complete detailed reports and certification for all works undertaken, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with fire safety engineers, project managers, and other trades to deliver integrated fire safety solutions.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of British Standards (e.g., BS EN 16034, BS 476) and industry best practices.
• Adhere to all site-specific health & safety requirements and company policies.
Requirements:
• Proven experience installing and maintaining any but not necessarily all of the following - doors, barriers, shutters, and gates, bollards etc.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of electronic controls (preferably with some experience in fire alarm interface systems).
• Relevant certification in passive fire protection (e.g., FIRAS, BM TRADA, or similar) preferred.
• Full UK driving license.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on multiple sites.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and client interaction.
Desirable:
• Knowledge of current fire safety legislation (e.g., Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005).
• Experience in working within commercial, industrial, or residential environments.
• CSCS card and other relevant site qualifications (e.g., PASMA, IPAF).
