NHS England, working across in the Midlands, is seeking to recruit a Training Programme Director (TPD) for Cardiology on a part-time secondment basis.
The role of the Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England mandate.
As part of a national system, please note that a flat rate of £10,000 per PA, per year (or pro rata as necessary) will be paid to a Trust for successful candidates appointed to TPD roles. This should be treated as a contribution towards the overall cost and is not a reflection of the individual's pay.
Main duties of the job
The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. It will also focus on workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.
To support the Postgraduate Dean, the Training Programme Directors will work across health and social care sectors within a team, reflecting changing service models to deliver an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.
The post is offered on a secondment basis. Candidates must secure written agreement from their employer for release from clinical duties for the specified number of PAs.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Experience and Knowledge
- Current clinical commitment within the School/specialty.
- Significant experience working with learners or doctors in training.

- Recent experience in recruitment, selection, and equality/diversity initiatives.
- Active involvement in appraisal processes.
- Understanding of developments involving relevant colleges, professional bodies, and NHS organizations.

Qualifications and Training
- Primary clinical healthcare qualification.
- Current consultant level or equivalent in the specialty.
- Experience within the specialty at consultant level.
- Membership/Fellowship of a relevant College or professional body, registered with the regulatory authority.
- Valid Licence to Practise.
- Participation in educational development courses (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer).

Salary: Depending on experience, in line with TPD sessional payments.
