HGV Class 1 Driver – Birmingham, West Midlands – Up to £34.24 Per Hour

People Solutions are currently recruiting for HGV Class 1 Drivers to join our well-established client based in Birmingham, West Midlands.

This position is ideal for applicants looking for a role as an HGV Class 1 Driver, LGV Class 1 Driver, Category C+E Driver, Articulated Lorry Driver or Trunking Driver.

Shifts

• Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday shift patterns
• Weekend working required depending on shift pattern
• Day shift start times between 03:00 and 06:00
• Night shift start times between 16:00 and 20:00
• Minimum 9.75 paid hours per day
• Ongoing work with temporary-to-permanent opportunities after 13 weeks

Rates of Pay

• £17.12 per hour – Day shift basic rate
• £22.77 per hour – Day shift rate after 48 hours
• £22.78 per hour – Night shift basic rate
• £30.30 per hour – Night shift rate after 48 hours
• £34.24 per hour – Sunday rate
• Minimum 9.75 hours paid per day

Day-to-Day Duties

As an HGV Class 1 Driver, your duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Operating Category C+E vehicles safely and efficiently
• Completing RDC deliveries with minimal loading and unloading
• Completing approximately 2–3 drops per shift to regular delivery locations
• Carrying out pre-use and post-use vehicle inspections
• Ensuring loads are correctly loaded and secured
• Complying with Drivers' Hours Regulations, Working Time Regulations and UK road traffic legislation
• Communicating effectively with transport teams and customers
• Reporting vehicle defects and maintenance issues promptly
• Assisting with loading and unloading duties where required

Essential Skills

To be successful as an HGV Class 1 Driver, you will need:

• Valid UK Category C+E Driving Licence
• Minimum 12 months' Category C+E driving experience
• Valid Driver CPC Qualification Card
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card
• No more than six penalty points for minor offences and no major endorsement codes
• Good standard of spoken and written English
• Excellent timekeeping and reliability
• Good understanding of road transport legislation
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Driver assessment required before commencement
• Paid induction provided
• Industry-related training and ongoing support throughout your assignment
