Permanent People Rec2Rec
Client Development Manager – IT & Technology
Location: Birmingham (Edgbaston) – Office / Field-Based / Hybrid
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Love recruitment, but prefer developing client relationships to chasing new business?
We're working with an established and ambitious technology recruitment business in Birmingham that's looking to appoint an experienced recruitment professional to join its growing Major Accounts team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a successful Recruitment Consultant or Account Manager who enjoys the relationship-building side of recruitment and wants to move into a role focused on developing existing clients, rather than traditional new business development.
No cold calling. No building a desk from scratch. An established major account with huge potential for growth.
You'll be joining a successful team, inheriting relationships within one of the business's largest accounts and working closely with experienced colleagues to develop opportunities further.
The opportunity
Our client has a well-established partnership with a major IT services provider, giving its recruitment team access to a large and continually growing network of businesses.
With new client introductions happening regularly, the existing Account Managers are extremely busy managing recruitment requirements and supporting clients.
They're now looking for someone who can take those initial relationships and develop them further.
You'll be meeting additional hiring managers, building relationships across different departments and identifying further contract and permanent recruitment opportunities.
You'll work closely with the existing Account Managers, so you'll have plenty of support around you. Your focus will be on growing relationships and developing accounts rather than running a traditional 360 recruitment desk.
What you'll be doing
- Developing relationships within an established, high-value client account.
- Meeting hiring managers and key decision-makers to understand their recruitment needs.
- Expanding relationships across different departments and business areas.
- Identifying additional contract and permanent recruitment opportunities.
- Working closely with Account Managers to ensure a seamless service for clients.
- Attending regular face-to-face client meetings, predominantly across London and the South East.
- Building long-term, commercially valuable relationships.
What does a typical week look like?
This is a genuinely client-facing role, so you'll spend much of your week out meeting people rather than sitting behind a desk.
Your typical working week will look like:
- Monday – Birmingham office: Catching up with the team, reviewing accounts and planning the week ahead.
- Tuesday to Thursday – Client visits: Out meeting clients, building relationships and developing opportunities, predominantly within the M25.
- Friday – Working from home: Focusing on administration, client follow-ups and planning.
You'll have plenty of autonomy to manage your diary and relationships, with the support of an experienced team behind you.
What we're looking for
We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced recruiters who understand contract recruitment, ideally within IT or Technology.
You'll ideally have:
- A successful background within recruitment consultancy, account management or client development.
- Strong experience and understanding of contract recruitment, alongside knowledge of permanent recruitment.
- Experience recruiting within IT, Technology, Engineering, STEM or other professional/technical markets.
- Experience developing relationships with multiple hiring managers within existing accounts.
- Confidence meeting clients face-to-face and building relationships with senior stakeholders.
- A commercially minded approach and the ability to spot opportunities for further account growth.
- The drive and ambition to succeed within a high-performing recruitment environment.
- The flexibility to travel regularly for client meetings.
You might currently be a 360 Recruitment Consultant who enjoys the client-facing side of recruitment but would love to move away from cold business development.
Equally, you could be an experienced recruitment Account Manager looking for an opportunity to work with larger accounts and significantly increase your earning potential.
What's on offer?
- £45,000 basic salary (DOE)
- Uncapped commission with excellent earning potential.
- An established major account with significant opportunities for further growth.
- No cold business development or requirement to build a desk from scratch.
- A genuinely client-facing position with autonomy to manage your week.
- Monday in the Birmingham office, Tuesday to Thursday predominantly visiting clients, and Friday working from home.
- A collaborative and experienced Major Accounts team.
- A successful, ambitious business with a high-performing sales culture.
- Genuine career progression within a growing organisation.
This is a business that values ambition, transparency and performance, with a strong track record of developing and promoting its people.
If you're an experienced recruiter who loves building relationships, meeting clients and identifying opportunities, but would prefer to move away from traditional 360 recruitment, we'd love to hear from you.
