Senior Quantity Surveyor - #2185697
Anzurra - Executive Search & Talent Advisory
Overview:
Our client is a global construction and engineering consultancy providing project services, commercial advisory and expert witness support. It is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong grounding in traditional quantity surveying gained with a UK main contractor.
The role offers the opportunity to continue working on live projects while applying your contractor-side experience to construction claims and disputes. It would suit someone who enjoys the detail of measurement, pricing and valuations and wants to use those skills across a broader range of assignments.
Job Description:
You will join the project services team and provide quantity surveying and commercial support across the project lifecycle, from estimating, tendering and procurement through to post-contract cost management and final accounts. Where assignments call for it, you will also work alongside quantum specialists and expert witnesses. Your contribution will draw on your understanding of how construction work is priced, delivered and recorded, helping the team assess the value of work carried out, the cost of changes and the evidence supporting amounts claimed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take off quantities from drawings and specifications and prepare or review bills of quantities and schedules of work.
- Prepare and review estimates, evaluate tender returns and support procurement.
- Monitor project costs and prepare or review cost reports and forecasts.
- Assess interim valuations, payment applications and variations against the scope, contract and supporting records.
- Prepare, review and reconcile final accounts.
- Review contracts, project records and cost information to establish the basis for valuations and claimed costs.
- Support quantum and expert witness teams with measurement, pricing and cost analysis on construction disputes.
Profile Required:
- Hands-on quantity surveying experience only working for main contractor.
- Experience across pre- and post-contract stages, including estimating, tendering, procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Strong measurement and pricing skills, with the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Practical understanding of construction methods and how they affect cost and valuation.
- Working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts and their application to payment, variations and final accounts.
- Ability to explain how you reached a valuation or cost assessment and substantiate it with project records.
Required Experience:
- Experience with an established UK regional or mid-tier main contractor.
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Exposure to construction claims, quantum analysis or dispute resolution. Candidates looking for their first opportunity to work alongside expert witnesses are welcome.
What Sets This Opportunity Apart:
- A move into consultancy where your experience of pricing and commercially managing construction work remains central to the role.
- The opportunity to work on live project commissions and see how the same commercial records are examined when a valuation or cost is disputed.
- Exposure to how quantum specialists and expert witnesses turn measurement, pricing and project evidence into a reasoned assessment of the sums in dispute.
