Customer Service Advisor - #2184881
Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited
Your new company
Looking to build your career in customer service? We're recruiting Customer Service Advisors to join Birmingham City Council, Europe's largest local authority, supporting a large, busy contact centre operation and a range of different Council services.
You'll be part of a fast-paced customer service environment, helping Birmingham residents with a wide variety of enquiries. With opportunities available across different departments.
Your new role
Depending on the department you join, you'll be responsible for supporting Birmingham residents with a wide range of enquiries. This is a heavily phone-based role, where you'll handle a high volume of inbound customer calls, providing clear information, resolving queries and making sure customers receive the right support.
Alongside telephone enquiries, you may also support customers through email and other channels. You'll accurately update systems and customer records and work closely with colleagues and other Council teams to deliver a professional, helpful and positive customer experience.
We are currently recruiting for Housing Solutions and the Housing Repairs teams. Housing Solutions offers a 9am-5pm working pattern, Monday to Friday, and Housing Repairs offer a shift pattern between the hours of 8am-8pm, Monday to Friday.
The first approximately 8 weeks will be office-based, giving you the training and support needed to feel confident in the role. Following successful completion of your training, you'll move to a hybrid working arrangement, subject to the requirements of your department.
What you'll need to succeed
You don't necessarily need previous Council or contact centre experience to be successful in this role. We're looking for people with strong customer service and communication skills who are confident speaking with a wide range of customers, particularly over the phone.
You'll need to be comfortable using IT systems and completing administrative tasks, with the ability to remain calm, professional and helpful when dealing with challenging or complex enquiries. Most importantly, we're looking for reliable, positive people with a genuine desire to help customers and deliver a great service.
What you'll get in return
These are initially 3-month ongoing temporary assignments, offering a great way to gain experience within Birmingham City Council. For candidates who perform well and demonstrate the right attitude and capability, there is a strong opportunity to be considered for permanent roles when suitable vacancies become available. You will also be paid on a weekly basis, offering an hourly rate of £15.07 per hour (includes holiday pay).
