Learning Support Assistant

Temporary

Location: the West Midlands

Start date: As soon as possible

Are you someone who enjoys helping learners overcome barriers and build the confidence to succeed?

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work alongside teaching staff at a further education provider in the West Midlands, giving learners with additional needs the practical and personal support they need to access their course and progress.

You'll support learners individually and in small groups, adapting your approach to suit each person and helping them develop the independence to learn for themselves.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to learners with additional learning needs.
  • Helping learners access the curriculum and build confidence and independent learning skills.
  • Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
  • Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to learner support plans and reviews.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience supporting young people or adults in an educational, care or community setting
  • Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine commitment to inclusive learning and learner progress
  • A patient, adaptable and proactive approach

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience working with learners with SEND or SEMH needs
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and learning support strategies
  • A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work, or a willingness to work towards one

If you're ready to help learners achieve more than they thought they could, we'd love to hear from you.
