Senior Web Developer

Salary: Circa £50k

Location: Birmingham area / Hybrid / Flexible UK Remote

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Web Developer to combine hands on engineering with technical leadership. You’ll take a Senior role in a small development team, maintain high standards across code quality and security, mentor colleagues, and contribute to project planning and technical delivery.

Around half of your time will involve building solutions, with the remainder focused on team development, architecture, estimation, and technical oversight. We’re looking for someone who embraces modern engineering practices and uses AI-powered tools thoughtfully to improve productivity and maintainability.

What You’ll Bring

• Significant commercial development experience, including responsibility for guiding other developers and managing technical quality.

• Advanced WordPress development capabilities, including bespoke themes, plugins, and secure implementations.

• Strong PHP skills, object-oriented principles, and experience with Laravel, or similar frameworks.

• Solid front-end knowledge across HTML, CSS/Sass, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Vue.

• Familiarity with Git, automated deployment, CI/CD, and modern front-end tooling.

• Experience using AI development assistants to support coding, testing, and workflow improvements.• Strong SQL and relational database knowledge, particularly MySQL or MariaDB.

• Confidence working with Linux environments, command-line tools, and server infrastructure.

• Understanding of accessibility, responsive design, performance optimisation, and modern web standards.

• The ability to mentor colleagues, review code, contribute to technical decisions, and collaborate on project estimates and specifications.

• Clear communication skills and the confidence to explain technical solutions to clients and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

Experience with e-commerce platforms, headless CMS solutions, cloud hosting, third-party CRM integrations, or AI API implementations would be beneficial.
