GIS Technician - #2178791

GIS Recruiter is seeking a GIS Technician to support a UK Council on a 3 month contract. This remote role will focus on capturing, maintaining spatial data, helping ensure the council’s GIS information is accurate, consistent and fit for purpose.

This project would suit someone with at least two years’ commercial GIS experience and practical skills in ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS. Previous experience working in a GIS project within a UK Local Government would be particularly desirable.

Duties to Include

• Capture, digitise, edit and maintain spatial data using ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS.
• Undertake quality assurance checks on spatial and attribute data, identifying and resolving errors, gaps and inconsistencies.
• Maintain GIS datasets in line with agreed standards and project requirements.
• Produce maps and spatial information to support council services.
• Keep clear records of data sources, updates and quality checks.
• Work with colleagues to understand requirements and deliver assigned tasks to agreed deadlines.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years’ commercial experience in a GIS role
• Practical experience using ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS.
• Experience in spatial data capture, digitisation and attribute editing.
• A strong understanding of GIS data quality and quality assurance processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to data management.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Availability to start in November 2026 and commit to a 3 month contract.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working for a UK Council in a GIS position.
• Familiarity with local authority datasets and the use of GIS to support council services.
