IT Systems Manager
Birmingham - £40,000 - £50,000
We’re working with an established Birmingham-based business of around 100 employees across multiple sites, looking to hire an IT Systems Manager to take responsibility for its internal IT environment and wider business systems.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety and visibility across the business. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of IT, supporting users, systems, devices and business applications, while working with external providers when more specialist technical support is required.
There is currently no team to manage, although that could change as the business continues to grow. The role will report into the directors, giving you direct exposure to the people making decisions around the company’s systems and future IT direction.
What you’ll be doing
- Running the day-to-day internal IT environment
- Supporting Microsoft 365, user accounts, permissions and access
- Managing onboarding, offboarding and general user administration
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, connectivity and system issues
- Supporting laptops, desktops, printers and other business devices
- Working with external IT providers and suppliers when specialist support is required
- Maintaining IT documentation, licences, assets and processes
- Supporting security, backups, access controls and general IT housekeeping
- Helping improve internal systems and processes as the business grows
- Supporting the company’s ERP and other business-critical applications, with the opportunity to take on more responsibility for these over time
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with a strong hands-on IT background who enjoys being close to the business and taking responsibility for getting things sorted.
Experience across areas such as Microsoft 365, Active Directory / Entra, user support, devices, networking and business applications would all be useful.
Previous experience supporting an ERP system would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
Experience with ERP, finance systems, CRM platforms or other business-critical applications would all be relevant.
The most important thing is being comfortable learning new systems, working directly with users and managing the relationship between the business and external technical providers.
Who could this suit?
This could be a good move for someone currently working as a:
- Senior IT Support Engineer
- IT Systems Engineer
- Systems Engineer
- IT Manager within a smaller business
- Senior Support Engineer looking for broader responsibility
Working pattern
The role will initially be onsite while you get to know the business, its users and systems.
Once established, there will be the opportunity for hybrid working.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants real responsibility for a company’s IT, the backing of external support when needed, and the chance to influence how its systems develop as the business continues to grow.
