Accounts Payable Manager / Ledger Control

Are you an experienced finance professional with a strong background in Accounts Payable, purchase ledger management and month-end accounting?

We are recruiting on behalf of an established business seeking an Accounts Payable & Ledger Control Manager to take ownership of its accounts payable function, strengthen financial controls and ensure the accuracy of financial ledgers and reporting.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, hands-on finance professional who enjoys combining technical accounting responsibilities with team supervision, problem-solving and continuous process improvement.

Your responsibilities as an Accounts Payable Manager will include:

• Overseeing the full Accounts Payable process, including supplier onboarding, invoice processing, approval workflows, supplier queries and payment runs.
• Supervising the AP workload, monitoring backlogs and ensuring invoices are processed accurately and within deadlines.
• Reviewing purchase orders, invoice authorisation, nominal coding and supporting documentation, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintaining accurate nominal ledger accounts and reviewing cost allocations across departments, sites and cost centres.
• Preparing and reconciling month-end accruals and prepayments, including departmental cost allocations.
• Managing purchase ledger, balance sheet and control account reconciliations, resolving outstanding differences within month-end deadlines.
• Ensuring intercompany charges, recharges and balances are accurately recorded and reconciled.
• Supporting monthly management reporting through cost schedules, variance analysis and corrective journals.
• Maintaining VAT compliance, robust payment controls and audit-ready financial records.
• Identifying opportunities to improve invoice processing, automation, purchase order matching and financial reporting procedures.
• Supporting, guiding and training team members while working closely with non-finance managers to resolve queries and improve financial accuracy.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Proven experience managing or supervising an Accounts Payable or purchase ledger function.
• Strong hands-on experience with nominal ledger reconciliations and month-end cost accounting.
• A good understanding of accruals, prepayments, GRNI, intercompany accounting, VAT controls and cost-centre accounting.
• Experience using accounting systems and invoice processing or purchase order workflows.
• Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables and reconciliations.
• AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Experience working within a multi-site or multi-entity business would be advantageous. Familiarity with Sage 200, Intact, Xero or QuickBooks, alongside ACCA or CIMA studies, would also be beneficial.
