Take ownership of an established commercial insurance portfolio generating approximately £500,000 in annual income, with the opportunity to develop client relationships and grow the book over time. This Account Director position in Birmingham offers up to £80,000 basic salary, discretionary bonus and a flexible working arrangement requiring just one day per week in the office.

You'll be joining an established insurance broking business with a strong presence in Motor Fleet and Motor Trade, alongside a broader commercial insurance portfolio. The role offers a substantial existing book from day one, allowing you to concentrate on client relationships, retention and account development rather than building a portfolio from scratch.

The opportunity

This is a senior client-facing position where the main focus is managing and developing an established portfolio, with an element of new business development alongside your existing responsibilities.

• Established portfolio: Inherit a commercial insurance book generating approximately £500,000 in annual income.
• Meaningful client relationships: Manage accounts generating up to £65,000 in annual income, building strong relationships with business owners and senior decision-makers.
• Broad commercial exposure: Work across Motor Fleet, Motor Trade and wider commercial insurance risks, with opportunities involving more complex business requirements.
• Portfolio development: Identify opportunities to strengthen existing relationships, improve retention and develop accounts over the longer term.
• New business opportunities: Generate new business alongside your existing portfolio responsibilities, without new client acquisition being the primary focus.
• Wider market opportunities: Benefit from a business developing its S&A and international insurance capabilities.

You'll have the support of an established broking operation, allowing you to focus on maintaining strong client relationships and identifying commercial opportunities.

Who would suit it?

This opportunity would suit an experienced Commercial Insurance Account Director or Senior Account Executive who enjoys managing established clients and wants a substantial portfolio to take ownership of.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Experience managing a significant commercial insurance portfolio within a broking environment.
• A broad understanding of commercial insurance, ideally including Motor Fleet or Motor Trade risks.
• Confidence dealing with business owners, finance directors and other senior decision-makers.
• Strong relationship management skills, with a track record of retaining and developing commercial clients.
• The commercial awareness to identify new business opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on existing accounts.

You won't need to bring your own book of business. The priority is finding someone who can take responsibility for an established portfolio, build strong relationships and contribute to its continued growth.
