Lead Construction Underwriter

A well-known insurer is looking to appoint a Lead Construction Underwriter into its Birmingham team as it continues to invest in the Mid-Market and Corporate construction sector.
This is a broker-facing role with a strong emphasis on trading, relationship development and growth. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of key brokers, drive new business activity, handle larger and more complex construction risks, and act as a senior referral point for colleagues across the team.
Alongside managing your own portfolio, you'll support the development of underwriting talent, contribute to trading strategy and play an active role in strengthening the insurer's presence across the regional market. You'll be expected to lead broker meetings and presentations, identify and convert new business opportunities, and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects across your broker panel.
Working closely with underwriting leadership, you'll help shape trading plans, support delivery of growth objectives and utilise market insight and performance data to identify opportunities and drive profitable outcomes. The role offers plenty of market engagement, giving you the platform to further develop key broker relationships while enhancing the insurer's position within the construction market.
The role would suit an established Construction Underwriter with strong broker relationships, excellent trading credentials and a track record of delivering profitable growth. You'll possess sound technical knowledge across construction classes, be comfortable handling complex cases and referrals, and have the confidence to influence both internal and external stakeholders.
