Our client is a specialist provider of AI and Data solutions, helping businesses unlock the potential of their data, improve efficiency and embrace emerging technologies. With expertise spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, automation and digital transformation, our client works closely with organisations to identify business challenges and deliver practical, commercially valuable solutions.
As their AI and Data business continues to grow, our client is looking for a commercially minded Business Development Manager to help develop new opportunities and build relationships with prospective customers.
The Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager or B2B sales professional seeking a flexible, part-time position with excellent earning potential.
Unlike traditional business development roles, this position is primarily focused on qualifying and developing opportunities rather than cold calling or closing sales. Our client's marketing team will provide leads and prospective opportunities, with the successful candidate responsible for engaging potential customers, understanding their requirements and developing genuine commercial opportunities.
Working closely with the Chief Operations Officer (COO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and technical consultants, the successful candidate will ensure that opportunities are properly qualified before being passed to senior colleagues for proposals, pricing and closing.
The role also involves an element of networking and relationship building to identify additional opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow up on inbound enquiries, marketing-generated leads, referrals and prospective business opportunities.
- Engage with potential B2B customers to understand their business challenges, objectives and requirements.
- Qualify opportunities by identifying customer needs, decision-makers, budgets, buying processes and timescales.
- Identify where AI, data analytics, automation and related technologies could deliver genuine business value.
- Develop relationships with prospective clients and nurture opportunities through the early stages of the sales process.
- Work closely with the COO, CTO and technical consultants to ensure opportunities are sufficiently qualified before progressing.
- Present clear, well-developed sales opportunities to senior colleagues for proposals, pricing and closing.
- Attend relevant networking events and meetings to develop relationships and identify new business opportunities.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, track prospect engagement and manage the sales pipeline effectively.
- Provide feedback to the marketing team on lead quality, conversion rates and opportunities to improve future campaigns.
- Support the wider commercial team during proposal and negotiation stages where required.
Key Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in B2B sales, business development, internal sales, sales development or a similar commercial role.
- Proven ability to qualify leads, identify customer requirements and develop commercially viable sales opportunities.
- Experience of consultative selling, with the ability to understand customer challenges and identify appropriate solutions.
- An understanding of IT services, data analytics, business intelligence, data integration or related technology solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with senior business decision-makers.
- A commercially astute approach, with the ability to recognise genuine opportunities and understand buying motivations.
- Highly organised, self-motivated and comfortable managing a sales pipeline independently.
- Experience using CRM systems and sales or marketing tools.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with marketing, commercial and technical teams.
- Degree-level education.
Desirable Experience Includes:
- Previous business development experience within IT services, data services, AI or technology consultancy.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation or digital transformation.
- Experience using HubSpot or Mailchimp.
- An IT-related degree or knowledge of project management methodologies.
Benefits:
- Uncapped bonus.
- Flexible working hours: 20 hours per week, arranged to suit individual preferences, such as 2.5 days per week or five 4-hour days.
- Home-based working: Primarily remote, with occasional attendance at the Birmingham city centre office, networking events and client meetings.
- Qualified leads provided: Marketing-generated opportunities mean the role focuses on developing genuine prospects rather than extensive cold calling.
Take the Next Step:
If you are an experienced B2B sales or business development professional looking for a rewarding part-time opportunity that offers genuine flexibility, excellent earning potential and a steady flow of prospective opportunities, this could be the ideal next step.
Our client is looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, asking the right questions and turning initial enquiries into meaningful commercial opportunities.
