Reflex Accounting is a growing Birmingham accountancy practice supporting SMEs and owner-managed businesses across the UK.

We are looking for an ambitious Senior Accountant with at least 3 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice who is ready to take more ownership of clients, workflow and delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is technically capable but wants to develop beyond accounts preparation into client management, team coordination and practice management.

You will work closely with the practice owner and gradually take responsibility for your own portfolio of clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a portfolio of SME and limited company clients

• Acting as a key day-to-day contact for clients

• Coordinating work with accountants preparing bookkeeping, VAT, accounts and tax work

• Monitoring jobs and ensuring deadlines are met

• Reviewing bookkeeping, VAT returns, statutory accounts and Corporation Tax work

• Taking ownership of client queries and following matters through to completion

• Managing and supporting new client onboarding

• Setting up and managing clients within Xero

• Ensuring client records and accounting systems are maintained efficiently

• Identifying missing information and proactively following up with clients

• Helping manage workflow across the practice

• Participating in selected client and prospect meetings

• Identifying opportunities where existing clients may benefit from additional services

• Helping improve practice processes, workflows, checklists and systems

You should have:

• At least 3 years' recent experience within a UK accountancy practice

• ACCA or ACA part-qualified status, or be AAT qualified

• Strong practical experience using Xero

• Good knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, year-end accounts and Corporation Tax

• Experience dealing directly with SME clients

• Confidence managing multiple jobs and deadlines

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

• Strong organisation and time management

• The confidence to coordinate work completed by other accountants

• A proactive approach to getting work completed rather than waiting to be chased

• Commercial awareness and an ability to recognise additional client needs

Experience with e-commerce, property, construction or other owner-managed businesses would be advantageous but is not essential.

We are looking for someone who is organised, communicative, ambitious and dependable.

You should enjoy speaking to clients and be comfortable taking responsibility.

If a client sets up another company, acquires a property, grows their workforce or requires additional reporting or advisory support, we want you to recognise that change and help identify how the practice can support them.

You should also be comfortable coordinating other accountants and ensuring jobs continue moving through the practice.

This role is designed for someone who wants to progress.

As you demonstrate the ability to independently manage clients, review work and coordinate delivery, there will be an opportunity to progress towards a Client Manager position with increasing responsibility.
