Head of Media - #2164326
Realise Talent
Head of Media
Location: Birmingham (Flexible hybrid - 1 day in office)
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
The Company
A Birmingham-based, well-established, full-service marketing agency with over 50 years in the industry and a team of 55 specialists across media, creative, strategy, SEO, paid, social and development.
Wholly independent and owner-operated, they’ve built a strong reputation on genuine client retention and award-winning work - recognised nationally for both their business performance and campaign delivery.
Their sweet spot is ambitious brands in building, construction, home and garden, sectors they know deeply and where they consistently punch above their weight. It’s a focused, deliberate positioning and it works.
The Role
This is a Head of Media role leading the media output for the agency’s largest and most strategically important client - a major international brand with a UK media budget in the region of £6m-£8m.
You’ll take ownership of media planning and buying across the full channel mix - TV and broadcast is the focus, but additionally with OOH, paid search, programmatic and performance - while leading a team of three and reporting directly into the MD.
This is not a role for someone wanting to rebuild from scratch. The foundations are strong, the client relationship is well-established and the 2027 planning cycle is already underway. What’s needed is an experienced media leader who can step in, get up to speed quickly, and deliver with confidence and consistency from day one, then build for the future.
Responsibilities
- Lead media planning and buying across TV/broadcast, OOH, paid search, programmatic and performance channels
- Own the full 2027 media planning and implementation cycle for the lead client
- Manage and develop a team of three across the media function
- Lead the client relationship day-to-day — a senior, trusted point of contact who can be leaned on
- Oversee brand uplift, campaign tracking and performance reporting
- Manage a significant media budget with commercial rigour and clear accountability
- Liaise with the client’s UK and international teams, including head office in Germany
- Work with external buying partners where relevant and ensure seamless integration
Who Are You
- An experienced media professional with a strong background across TV/broadcast planning and buying - this is the non-negotiable
- Comfortable across the full channel mix: OOH, paid search, programmatic and performance alongside broadcast
- Confident leading client relationships at a senior level - someone a Marketing Director trusts to make them look good
- Strong on tracking, analytics and campaign performance - commercially minded, not just a planner
- Highly organised and analytical - you work autonomously, manage your own priorities and don’t need hand-holding
- A team leader who develops people and manages up and down with ease
- Agency-side background strongly preferred - ideally with experience running large media budgets across integrated campaigns
- Pragmatic and consultative - you ask the right questions, give considered recommendations and get things done
Why Join?
- Lead the media output on a flagship account with a significant budget
- Join a stable, long-standing independent agency with a tight-knit, experienced team
- Real autonomy - report directly into the MD and own your area completely
- Strong hybrid model - predominantly remote with one day in the Birmingham office
- Work with a well-established client relationship where the brief is to deliver and grow, not start from scratch
- A business that has been doing this for over 50 years and knows how to retain both clients and people
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
