We are working with a south Birmingham secondary school and looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to support as a Food Technology Technician on an interim basis, Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 4pm, term time only.
Your new role
The role is based in the classroom, supporting the teacher in preparing the classroom prior to lessons and then aiding staff and pupils in the use of machinery. Helping set up lessons, assisting students during practical lessons, clearing rooms at the end of lessons, cleaning equipment and cookers, to prepare for demonstrations in food lessons and clean up afterwards. To maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic classroom environment complying with COSHH regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need to be highly organised, proactive, and able to work effectively in a busy school environment. You will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of Food Technology lessons by ensuring equipment, ingredients, and learning resources are prepared and maintained to a high standard.
Essential requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Food Technology Technician within a school setting.
- A sound understanding of food preparation, storage, hygiene, and health and safety requirements within an educational environment.
- Knowledge of relevant food safety legislation and hygiene standards.
- The ability to prepare, organise, and maintain equipment and ingredients for practical lessons.
- Experience carrying out stock control, ordering supplies, and managing food inventories.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and students.
You will also need to have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS check. The school can't accept any applicants without this.
