Hays Education are proud to be working with a busy and supportive secondary school in South Birmingham who are seeking an experienced Attendance Officer to join their team on an interim basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on student attendance, engagement and safeguarding within a well-established school environment.
Your new role
As Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting excellent attendance and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.
Key responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality across the school
• Managing attendance systems and maintaining accurate records
• Investigating unexplained absences and following up with parents/carers
• Producing attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies
• Working closely with pastoral teams, safeguarding leads and external professionals
• Identifying attendance concerns and implementing intervention strategies
• Supporting school attendance initiatives and campaigns
• Ensuring compliance with attendance-related legislation and school policies

What you'll need to succeed

Previous school-based attendance experience is ESSENTIAL.
This role requires someone who can hit the ground running from day one. Candidates must have experience working within a school and/or attendance function.You will also need:

• Proven experience managing school attendance data and processes
• Knowledge of attendance procedures, safeguarding requirements and education legislation
• Experience using school MIS systems such as Arbor, SIMS, Bromcom or ScholarPack
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills when working with pupils, parents and staff
• Strong administrative and organisational abilities
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
• A proactive, resilient and professional approach
• candidates without previous Attendance Officer experience within a school setting will not be considered for this position.
