Start Your Land & Property Career on Europe's Largest Infrastructure Programmes

Are you looking to build a career in land, property or major infrastructure?

High Speed Two Ltd is looking for a Land Assembly / Land Referencing Assistant to join its Land & Property Division in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a specialist client side team supporting the delivery of one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes.

We are open to graduates who have an interest & have experience from their university courses in land and property (land referencing for example), as well as candidates who already have practical experience in land referencing, land assembly, land acquisition, property or a similar environment, even if you do not have a degree.

The role offers broad exposure across the Land & Property function, with the opportunity to develop your knowledge of land referencing, GIS, land acquisition, compulsory purchase, property management and land access.

The Opportunity

You will support the team responsible for managing the land and property information required to enable the HS2 programme to progress.

Working alongside experienced land, property, legal and infrastructure professionals, you will help ensure that land ownership information, records, notices and supporting documentation are accurate, complete and properly managed.

The role provides exposure to a wide range of activities rather than focusing on one narrow area.

You could be involved in:

  • Land referencing and ownership research
  • Land assembly and acquisition
  • Land access and possession
  • Compulsory purchase processes
  • GIS and spatial information
  • Land Registry research
  • Legal notices and documentation
  • Property and land records
  • Project progress and delivery monitoring

This makes it a particularly strong opportunity for someone who wants to understand how land and property enable the delivery of major infrastructure.

What You Will Do

  • Support land referencing activities and validate ownership and property information.
  • Review and update land, property and spatial information using GIS and mapping systems.
  • Undertake desktop research, including Land Registry checks.
  • Prepare, check and maintain land notices, registers and supporting documentation.
  • Support Final Land Acquisition Boundary activities and track actions through to completion.
  • Monitor progress against supplier and project deliverables and highlight delays or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure information is complete, traceable and up to date.
  • Work with legal teams, surveyors, consultants and other HS2 stakeholders to resolve queries.
  • Support the wider Land Assembly team with land acquisition, access and property related activities.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, accurate and genuinely interested in developing a career in land, property and major infrastructure.

You do not need a degree or previous professional land experience to be considered.

We are particularly interested in graduates from subjects such as Geography, GIS, Planning, Geospatial Science, Property, Estate Management, Property Law or related disciplines, particularly where university work has included land referencing, mapping or spatial data.

We will also consider candidates without a degree who already have practical experience in land referencing, land assembly, land acquisition, property, land access or similar work and want to develop their career within a major client organisation.

Most importantly, you will have good attention to detail, be comfortable working with information and data and have the communication skills to work confidently with a range of stakeholders.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Experience or a genuine interest in land referencing, land assembly, property or infrastructure.
  • Good organisational and analytical skills.
  • Confidence working with data, records and documentation.
  • Experience with GIS, mapping or spatial information would be advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
  • A genuine interest in developing a long term career within Land & Property.

Why Join HS2?

This is much more than a land administration role.

You will gain practical experience across the Land & Property function and develop an understanding of how land ownership, access, acquisition and property requirements support the delivery of major infrastructure.

You will work alongside experienced professionals across land assembly, property, legal and project delivery, giving you the opportunity to learn from people with significant major project experience.

The breadth of the role means you can develop in the areas that best suit your strengths and interests.

Long Term Career Opportunity

High Speed Two is a long term infrastructure programme, providing the opportunity to develop your career within a major client organisation.

There is a clear progression route towards Land Assembly Manager, £55,000 to £60,000 + package.

There are also opportunities to develop into other roles across the wider Land & Property Division as your experience grows, including land acquisition, property, land access and related project roles.

For a graduate or early career professional who wants to build specialist experience in land and property, this provides the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while working on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.

If you already have practical land referencing or land assembly experience, this is also an opportunity to take that experience into a major client organisation and develop it further.

The Opportunity to Build Your Career With HS2

You will be joining a specialist Land & Property team at an important stage of the HS2 programme, gaining experience that can open doors across land, property and major infrastructure.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to start or develop a career within Land & Property while playing a direct role in enabling one of Britain's largest infrastructure programmes.
