Band 6 OT – Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage a specialist clinical caseload and prioritise patient needs independently.
• Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments, including identifying patients’ strengths, needs, capacities and limitations.
• Develop and deliver individualised Occupational Therapy treatment and intervention plans.
• Provide OT input across inpatient and relevant community settings, working with patients, carers and the MDT.
• Work with patients with mental health needs and challenging behaviours, adapting interventions to individual circumstances.
• Provide supervision, professional guidance and support to junior Occupational Therapists and support staff.
• Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and professional reports in line with Trust and HCPC standards.
• Contribute to training, student placements and wider Therapy service development.
• Maintain professional competence through CPD and appraisal.

Band 7 OT – Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage a complex specialist clinical caseload across Assessment and Treatment and Forensic Learning Disability Services.
• Deliver specialist OT assessments, functional assessments, interventions and individualised treatment plans.
• Assess patients’ strengths, needs, risks, barriers and occupational goals, working closely with patients, carers and the MDT.
• Provide specialist OT input across inpatient and community settings.
• Provide Band 7 clinical leadership within the OT service, supporting service planning, development and workload management.
• Supervise, support and develop junior Occupational Therapists, assistants and support staff.
• Provide specialist clinical advice and contribute to complex MDT decision-making.
• Contribute to safeguarding, risk management, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and safe professional practice in line with HCPC standards and Trust policies.
• Maintain professional competence through CPD, appraisal and ongoing clinical development.

Essential Skills & Experience

• HCPC registered Occupational Therapist (or eligible for registration) with a relevant Occupational Therapy degree/diploma.
• Substantial Band 7-level Occupational Therapy experience working with a Learning Disability and/or Autism client group – this is a specific requirement for the role.
• Experience within Learning Disability, Autism, mental health, forensic, or complex inpatient services.
• Proven experience managing a complex clinical caseload and delivering structured Occupational Therapy interventions.
• Strong understanding of person-centred, recovery-focused, and evidence-based Occupational Therapy practice.
• Experience providing clinical supervision, leadership, and support to junior staff.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, carers, families, and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Ability to assess and manage clinical risk and contribute effectively to MDT decision-making and service development.
