We are currently representing a well-established, award-winning architectural practice who are continuing to expand with the opening of their new Central Birmingham office. They are now looking for an ambitious Associate Architect to join the growing team of 4 and play a key role in developing and driving the Birmingham studio.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Architect who is looking to step up into an Associate-level position, or an existing Associate looking for greater responsibility and the opportunity to help shape and lead a growing regional office. The successful individual will work closely with the Birmingham Partner while taking a leading role within the day-to-day running of the office, project delivery, team leadership and business development.

The practice works across a diverse range of sectors, with projects including Education, Commercial, Science, Healthcare, Residential and Heritage, ranging from smaller schemes through to multi-million-pound developments. The successful individual will have the opportunity to work across a varied project portfolio, taking projects through the RIBA stages from inception through to completion.

The role will combine active project running with team leadership and client development. The successful Associate Architect will be expected to build relationships within the Birmingham and wider West Midlands market, support business development and help establish the continued growth of the new office.

Associate Architect Overview

• Take a leading role in the day-to-day running and development of the Birmingham office
• Work closely with the Birmingham Partner while effectively leading the regional team
• Lead and manage projects from inception through to completion across RIBA stages 0-7
• Manage the day-to-day delivery of projects, working collaboratively with internal teams and external consultants
• Prepare and oversee planning and working drawing/construction packages
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, local planning authorities and building control
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
• Support and mentor junior members of the team
• Develop and maintain strong client and professional relationships
• Actively contribute to business development and help generate new opportunities across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands
• Represent the Practice at meetings, networking events and other business development opportunities
• Contribute to the continued growth and development of the Birmingham office
• Support the wider Practice with continuous improvement and development initiatives

Associate Architect Requirements

• ARB registered Architect
• Ideally 8+ years' professional experience, although candidates ready to step up into an Associate role will also be considered
• Strong experience delivering projects from inception through to completion across RIBA stages 0-7
• Proven design capability, creativity and problem-solving skills
• Strong technical knowledge, including UK Building Regulations, planning policy and construction detailing
• Experience preparing planning and working drawing/construction packages
• Able to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage projects effectively
• Strong communication, leadership and project management skills
• Commercial awareness and a genuine interest in business development
• Confident in developing and maintaining client relationships
• Knowledge of the Birmingham and wider West Midlands market advantageous
• Revit or other 3D BIM software experience advantageous
• Based within a commutable distance of Central Birmingham (Birmingham New Street)
