Business Rates Specialist - #2147485

We are an established commercial property company looking for an experienced Business Rates Specialist to manage business rates across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties.

The Role

• Manage business rates for multiple commercial properties and companies.
• Deal directly with the VOA and Local Authorities.
• Review rateable values and challenge incorrect assessments.
• Manage VOA appeals, challenges and rating reviews.
• Investigate incorrect or disputed business rates bills.
• Deal with empty properties, reliefs, exemptions and liability changes.
• Monitor business rates accounts, credits, refunds and adjustments.
• Review property alterations, splits, mergers and changes to hereditaments.
• Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary business rates costs.
• Maintain accurate records of all cases, appeals and correspondence.
• Provide advice to the property and accounts teams.
• Monitor deadlines and ensure matters are progressed promptly.

About You

• Previous hands-on business rates experience is essential.
• Strong knowledge of commercial property business rates.
• Experience dealing with the VOA and Local Authorities.
• Experience handling challenges, appeals and complex rating issues.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical skills.
• Able to manage multiple properties and cases independently.
• Organised, proactive and confident dealing with external organisations.
• Good Excel and general IT skills.

Experience

Experience within a commercial property company, property management company, rating consultancy or Local Authority would be advantageous.

This is a hands-on role for someone who understands business rates and can take ownership of issues from investigation through to resolution.
