Our client is an SME who are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper whith payroll expertise to join their business based in Birmingham. This role is paying between £30-35k and requires 5 days per week on-site.
What you'll do:
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate payments on both weekly and monthly schedules.
- Handle fluctuating payroll elements such as overtime, expenses, and worksheet adjustments with careful attention to detail.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing payroll legislation and ensure all processes remain compliant with current regulations.
- Support the bookkeeping function by recording financial transactions accurately and assisting with reconciliations as needed.
- Perform ad hoc transactional finance tasks including invoice processing, expense claims, and petty cash management.
- Assist with general office administration duties to ensure smooth day-to-day operations within the team.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to resolve queries related to payroll or finance matters promptly and politely.
- Prepare regular reports on payroll activity and financial transactions for management review.
- Respond sensitively to employee questions regarding pay, expenses, or benefits, offering clear explanations and guidance.
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture by sharing knowledge and supporting others during busy periods.
What you bring:
- Experience managing payroll processes for small or medium-sized teams is highly desirable.
- A thorough understanding of current UK payroll legislation and the ability to adapt quickly as regulations change is essential.
- Strong bookkeeping skills including accurate recording of financial transactions and reconciliation experience are required.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities that enable you to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
- A polite and responsive manner when dealing with employee queries about pay or expenses is crucial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel for reporting purposes is beneficial.
- Ability to handle fluctuating payroll elements like overtime calculations and expense claims with sensitivity and precision.
- Previous experience supporting office administration functions within a finance setting would be advantageous.
- Commitment to ongoing learning through training opportunities provided by the organisation is encouraged.
- A dependable approach that ensures deadlines are met without compromising accuracy or compliance.
