JOB OVERVIEW
This is an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability and recovery of narrow-aisle high-bay cranes and associated conveyor systems within a busy manufacturing and warehouse environment.
The Maintenance Engineer will manage planned preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns and carry out mechanical work including drive, bearing, gearing and roller-system repairs, alongside electrical repairs, installations and equipment upgrades.
Working closely with warehouse supervisors and management, the Maintenance Engineer will help minimise downtime, meet agreed service levels and maintain accurate PPM activity. The position also involves inverter and control-system programming, with PLC knowledge such as Siemens highly desirable.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Maintenance Engineer include:
- Crane Maintenance and Overhauls: Service, maintain and overhaul high-bay cranes, including drives, bearings, gearing and roller systems
- Breakdown Response: Attend equipment breakdowns within agreed SLAs, diagnose faults and restore operation efficiently
- Electrical Repairs and Installations: Complete electrical repairs, new installations and equipment upgrades to required industry standards
- Controls and Inverters: Change and programme inverters and other control systems
- Planned Preventative Maintenance: Keep PPM activity complete, accurate and up to date
- Operational Support: Work closely with warehouse supervisors and management to deliver the agreed level of service and minimise customer delays
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Previous electrical and mechanical maintenance experience
- City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 NVQ Diploma or Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong mechanical capability with supporting electrical knowledge
- Excellent technical knowledge and fault-finding ability
- Ability to prioritise workloads, plan effectively and work under pressure to deadlines
- Good computer literacy and understanding of warehouse management systems
- Good problem-solving skills with a practical and creative approach
- Strong time-management, communication and team-working skills
- Ability to work at height within high-bay ASRS crane systems
DESIRABLE
- Experience within warehouse, retail, FMCG or a similar operational environment
- Experience with ASRS systems, automated cranes or overhead cranes
- PLC experience, including Siemens
