I'm recruiting across Building Inspector, Senior Building Inspector and Specialist Building Inspector levels for permanent opportunities in Birmingham.

These positions sit within an established Building Control service, offering the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of projects throughout the city. You'll be responsible for helping ensure developments comply with Building Regulations, providing technical advice and working closely with clients, designers, developers and contractors.

At Building Inspector level, you'll manage your own caseload within your registered competence, reviewing applications, assessing plans and carrying out inspections at key stages of construction.

As you move into the senior and specialist positions, you'll take responsibility for increasingly complex projects, provide technical guidance to colleagues and stakeholders, and support the resolution of more challenging regulatory and compliance matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing Building Regulations applications and technical submissions
  • Assessing drawings, specifications and supporting documentation
  • Undertaking site inspections throughout the construction process
  • Identifying non-compliance and agreeing appropriate solutions
  • Providing clear technical advice to architects, contractors, developers and clients
  • Managing applications from initial submission through to completion
  • Maintaining accurate records and inspection notes
  • Applying current Building Regulations, legislation and technical guidance
  • Supporting colleagues on complex or unusual cases
  • Managing your own workload and priorities effectively

Salary and registration requirements vary depending on level:

Building Inspector level: £35,412 to £44,075 + £5,000 Market Supplement, minimum Class 2 registration

Senior level: £45,091 to £53,460 + £5,000 Market Supplement, minimum Class 2B-F registration
