Interim Project Accountant - #2140769

Robert Half are delighted to be working with a well-established, Birmingham based construction business who are looking to appoint a qualified, professional Interim Project Accountant on an initial three-month basis.

This is a hands-on interim role supporting the finance team through a particularly busy period, with a key focus on working closely with the commercial and contract teams to resolve outstanding contract finance issues, as well as preparing the business for its December year-end.

The business operates across a significant number of live contracts, so the successful candidate will need strong experience of contract/project accounting, or audit, within a construction or similarly complex project-based environment,

The Role

You will take ownership of a range of project accounting and year-end activities, working closely with both the finance and commercial teams to ensure the business is fully prepared for audit and year-end.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Working through and resolving outstanding audit queries from the prior year, ensuring appropriate supporting evidence and reconciliations are provided.
• Reviewing and strengthening project and contract accounting across a large portfolio of live construction contracts.
• Supporting the finance team with December year-end preparation, including reconciliations, accruals, provisions and other key year-end adjustments.
• Working closely with commercial and project teams to understand contract performance, costs incurred, forecasts and potential risks.
• Reviewing project financial information and identifying variances, anomalies and areas requiring further investigation.
• Ensuring project financial information is accurate, complete and appropriately supported.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A recognised Finance Qualification - ACA, ACCA, CIMA
• Previous experience as a Project Accountant / Contract Accountant within the construction, engineering, infrastructure or wider project-based sector.
• Strong understanding of contract accounting and project financial management.
• Proven experience dealing with external audit queries and year-end processes.
• The ability to work effectively with commercial and operational stakeholders, not just within finance.
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• A hands-on approach and the ability to quickly get up to speed in a complex environment.
• The confidence to investigate historic issues, challenge information and drive queries through to resolution.
• The ability to work to tight deadlines, particularly in preparation for the December year-end.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced interim Project Accountant to join a busy construction business at a critical point in its financial calendar. The role will sit outside of IR35, paying circa £450 per day, dependant on experience. There will be a requirement to be on site in Birmingham 2-3 days per week
