We are currently working with a leading consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Fire Surveyor to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional with a background in building surveying, fire safety, or fire risk assessment to work on a varied portfolio of complex projects.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside experienced Fire Engineers, providing specialist surveying and fire safety expertise across a range of buildings, with a particular focus on external wall assessments, PAS 9980 and FRAEW projects.

The Role

As a Fire Surveyor, you will be responsible for undertaking detailed inspections and assessments of existing buildings, identifying fire safety risks and providing robust technical recommendations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking external wall surveys and assessments in accordance with PAS 9980
  • Preparing and contributing to Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW)
  • Carrying out intrusive and non-intrusive surveys where required
  • Assessing external wall build-ups, materials, construction details and associated fire risks
  • Identifying defects, risks and non-compliance and providing appropriate recommendations
  • Producing clear, technically robust survey reports
  • Reviewing existing building information, drawings, specifications and fire safety documentation
  • Working collaboratively with Fire Engineers, Building Surveyors and other technical specialists
  • Supporting clients with remediation strategies and fire safety improvements
  • Attending site meetings and liaising with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, guidance, standards and industry best practice
About You

We are looking for an experienced Fire Surveyor who is confident working independently and has a strong understanding of building construction and fire safety.

You will ideally have:

  • Demonstrable experience undertaking PAS 9980 assessments and/or FRAEW's
  • A professional background in Building Surveying, Fire Safety, Fire Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of external wall systems, cladding and building construction
  • Experience carrying out building or fire safety surveys
  • A good understanding of current fire safety legislation and guidance
  • Excellent technical report-writing skills
  • The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and construction details
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills
  • A methodical and evidence-based approach to assessment and risk
  • Relevant professional qualifications or membership of a recognised professional body would be advantageous

Candidates with a Building Surveying background who have developed a strong specialism in fire safety will be particularly attractive, as will highly qualified fire safety professionals with significant building surveying experience.
