Service Charge Accountant
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £32,000–£36,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Hybrid

We’re working with a well-established property business in Birmingham that is looking for an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join its finance team.This is a varied role where you’ll take responsibility for the service charge accounting across a portfolio of properties, working closely with property managers and the wider finance team to ensure all budgets, reconciliations and year-end accounts are completed accurately and on time.

The role
You’ll be responsible for:

• Preparing annual service charge budgets
• Producing year-end service charge accounts and reconciliations
• Reviewing income and expenditure against budget
• Investigating and explaining service charge variances
• Posting accruals, prepayments and other relevant journals
• Maintaining accurate financial records across the property portfolio
• Liaising with property managers regarding budgets, expenditure and queries
• Responding to service charge queries from internal and external stakeholders
• Providing information and supporting documentation for year-end reviews and audits
• Ensuring deadlines are met across multiple service charge schedules
• Supporting improvements to current processes, reporting and controls

About you
We’re looking for someone who has:

• Previous service charge or property accounting experience
• Experience preparing service charge budgets and year-end reconciliations
• Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills
• Confidence managing multiple properties and competing deadlines
• Good Excel skills and experience using accounting or property management systems
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
