Role Purpose

Ensure the delivery of the electrical systems are designed, installed, and tested in compliance with the required standards, regulations and quality requirements to achieve client acceptance of the works.

Responsibilities

The principal responsibility of the Electrical Engineer is to ensure that the electrical systems are designed, installed, and tested in accordance with the Standards, Specifications, Codes of Practice, and local Regulations. This responsibility covers LV and HV distribution systems, motor control centres/control panels, fire alarms, and electrical services for all building assets. This includes the following tasks:

  • Undertake electrical design review and any calculation works, including LV, HV, fire alarms and lighting, as required for a typical building in the UK
  • Ensure electrical design is in compliance with the client and project requirements
  • Develop, maintain and monitor the programmes for scheduling and reporting on deliverables across all assets on the related electrical services
  • Work and liaise with associated design disciplines as part of delivering the project
  • Co-ordinate electrical systems design with other disciplines, and monitor the interfaces (functional and physical) progress throughout completion
  • Ensure the safety in design is properly implemented
  • Review Inspection and Test plans and procedures for electrical services together with the testing records, reports and certification
  • Ensure installation is in accordance with the design, industry standards and regulations and take part in the preparation of handing-over documentation
  • Demonstrate technical expertise and provide in-depth knowledge whilst proactively working with other members of the team

Experience Required

  • Degree in electrical engineering
  • Chartered Engineer of a professional institution
  • Expert knowledge of current legislation, standards, specifications and codes of practice relating to electrical works, in particular BS 7671
  • Demonstrable level of competency and understanding of NICEIC standards required for electrical works
  • Experience with recognised electrical design software (Amtech, IES, Relux, Revit or equivalent)
  • At least 2 years' proven experience in the construction industry
  • BIM knowledge and experience
  • Experience in water industry or railway transport systems will be appreciated
