SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER - MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE

HS2 | Building Services | Route wide Assets

An opportunity is available for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team delivering nine major building assets across the HS2 route.

The works include portal buildings, pumping stations and tunnel shafts. These complex reinforced-concrete structures contain extensive mechanical and electrical services, including ventilation, smoke control, public health, fire protection, controls, lifts and supporting specialist systems.

Your duties will include:

  • Coordinating mechanical services through design, construction and commissioning
  • Reviewing drawings, calculations, specifications and technical submittals
  • Supporting the delivery of ventilation, smoke control and public-health systems
  • Assessing specialist contractor designs for compliance and buildability
  • Coordinating mechanical installations with electrical and architectural packages
  • Resolving interfaces with civil and structural works
  • Supporting procurement and the approval of plant, equipment and materials
  • Responding to site queries, design changes and non-conformances
  • Monitoring installation quality and construction progress
  • Supporting testing, commissioning and final handover

We are looking for:

  • A suitably experienced Mechanical Engineer or Building Services Engineer
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building-services installations
  • Experience with a main contractor, MEP contractor or specialist subcontractor
  • An understanding of design development and technical assurance
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary construction packages
  • Knowledge of testing and commissioning processes
  • A practical, delivery-focused approach

Previous infrastructure or rail experience is not mandatory. Candidates from main contracting, commercial construction and building-services backgrounds will be considered.

The position offers a genuine opportunity to move into the infrastructure sector while applying existing mechanical expertise to railway, tunnel, structural and civil-engineering assets.
