Salary: £29,808 - £30,432 / year
Contract type: Full time

Candidate Source Ltd
Some days will test you. Others will remind you exactly why you chose a career where making a difference matters. As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll give vulnerable children and young people the safety, consistency and support they need to start moving forward.

You don’t need a background in childcare. Your experience may come from the Armed Forces, police, fire and rescue, ambulance service, prisons, security, youth work, care or another frontline environment where staying calm, following procedures and taking responsibility for others mattered. You’ll receive comprehensive training, shadow shifts and ongoing development to help you turn those transferable skills into a rewarding new career.

What’s in it for you
  • £29,808 – £30,432 including sleep-ins, with £50 paid for each sleep-in.
  • 224 hours’ annual leave, increasing to 248 hours after four years, plus an additional 3.5 days including birthday, wellbeing and volunteering leave.
  • Fully supported induction, classroom training and shadow shifts to prepare you for the realities of the work.
  • Support to achieve your Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, providing a recognised qualification and opportunities for future progression.
  • MediCash healthcare benefits, company pension and long-service awards worth up to £600.
  • Recognition awards of up to £500, alongside monthly awards worth up to £150.
Your responsibilities as Residential Support Worker
  • Build trusted relationships with children and young people, helping create the stability and consistency they need.
  • Support emotional and physical wellbeing while safeguarding those in your care and maintaining a safe home environment.
  • Help with everyday routines, education, appointments and activities, encouraging confidence and independence.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and respond calmly and effectively when situations become challenging.
  • Contribute to the everyday running of the home, including cooking, cleaning, shopping and maintaining accurate records.
  • Work closely with colleagues and other professionals to deliver consistent, joined-up support.
What we’re looking for in a Residential Support Worker
  • Experience gained in a frontline, care, youth work, security, emergency service, military, prison or similar environment is welcomed but not essential.
  • Evidence of handling challenging or confrontational situations and using appropriate de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to follow procedures, maintain professional boundaries and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • A full, valid manual driving licence is essential, and applicants must be aged 22 or over in line with the requirements of the position.
  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK is required, as visa sponsorship is not available.

Successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check. The employer is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

If you’re ready to use your frontline experience, resilience and judgement in a career where your actions can genuinely change a young person’s future, apply today for the Residential Support Worker position.
