We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Craftsperson to join a busy healthcare facilities team based in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically qualified mechanical professional with experience in heating, ventilation, plumbing and water systems, ideally within a healthcare or similarly regulated environment.
The role will primarily support mental health healthcare sites, with the potential to provide engineering support across other areas of the wider contract when required.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Carrying out a full range of Mechanical Craftsperson duties as required and directed by management.
Maintaining and supporting water and mechanical systems within a healthcare environment.
Undertaking water temperature monitoring and associated compliance activities.
Carrying out shower head cleaning and disinfection in accordance with required procedures.
Supporting TMV servicing, testing and maintenance.
Undertaking tank visual inspections and identifying any issues requiring further action.
Carrying out AHU servicing and maintenance as required.
Applying knowledge of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens to support safe and compliant water systems.
Completing all required paperwork, maintenance records and documentation accurately, promptly and to the required standard.
Responding to maintenance requests and carrying out reasonable duties directed by the Technical Services Manager, Supervisor or Helpdesk.
Supporting the delivery of reliable mechanical services across a critical healthcare environment.
Ensuring all works are completed in line with relevant KPIs, contractual requirements and service standards.
Driving a company vehicle when required to meet operational and service requirements.
Participating in an on-call rota to support out-of-hours service requirements.
Working safely at all times and following relevant Health & Safety, compliance and operational procedures.
What We’re Looking For:
NVQ or City & Guilds Level 2 qualification in Heating, Ventilation and Plumbing, or equivalent.
Practical experience working as a Mechanical Craftsperson, Mechanical Engineer, Plumber or Building Services Engineer.
Knowledge and practical understanding of mechanical and water systems.
Awareness and understanding of Legionella, water hygiene and waterborne pathogens.
Experience or training in temperature monitoring and water system maintenance.
Knowledge of TMVs, shower disinfection and water hygiene procedures.
Experience with AHUs and ventilation systems would be beneficial.
Good understanding of maintenance documentation, compliance records and associated paperwork.
A full driving licence and willingness to drive a company vehicle when required.
Flexibility and willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, supervisors and other stakeholders.
Previous experience working within a healthcare, hospital, public sector or highly regulated environment would be advantageous.

Important Requirements:
This position requires a DBS Standard check, and the successful candidate must be able to satisfy the requirements of the check.
A valid driving licence is required.
Relevant Legionella/TMV/Disinfection awareness and training is required.
NVQ or City & Guilds Level 2 Heating/Ventilation/Plumbing qualification is required.
