Grace Fredericks Recruitment

Chartered Building Surveyor

Location: West Midlands

Position Overview:

We’re working with a well-established and highly respected Loss Adjusting firm that is looking to grow its Surveying Services Division by recruiting an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor.

This is a great opportunity to join a business with a strong reputation within the property insurance market, working across a varied mix of commercial and domestic property claims. The role offers plenty of scope to use your existing surveying knowledge while gaining further experience within the insurance and loss adjusting sector.

The role would suit a Chartered Building Surveyor who enjoys a varied workload, is confident dealing with clients and stakeholders, and wants to use their surveying background in a more insurance-focused environment. With a strong pipeline of work and the backing of an experienced team, there is also plenty of opportunity to develop your knowledge of loss adjusting and progress your career within the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out site visits and property inspections to assess damage and gather the information required to support insurance claims.
  • Assess the extent and cause of damage, providing clear recommendations on the appropriate repairs and remedial works.
  • Prepare detailed reports following inspections, including findings, repair recommendations, scopes of work and estimated costs.
  • Prepare schedules of works, tender documentation and cost estimates where required, and assist with the review and analysis of contractor tenders.
  • Provide technical advice and support to loss adjusters, claims handlers, insurers and other stakeholders throughout the claims process.
  • Review relevant policy information and provide technical input to help ensure claims are dealt with in line with the policy terms and conditions.
  • Investigate the cause and circumstances of property damage, liaising with policyholders, property owners, contractors and other relevant parties as required.
  • Review repair costs, invoices and contractor proposals to ensure works and costs are reasonable and appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, investigations and claim-related information.
  • Provide clear and professional guidance to policyholders, helping them understand the claims process and addressing any queries or concerns.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external consultants to ensure claims are managed efficiently and technical issues are resolved promptly.

About You:

We’re looking for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor with a strong technical background and, ideally, some experience within the insurance or loss adjusting sector. We’re looking for someone who is confident assessing property damage, carrying out inspections, preparing reports and costs, and providing clear, practical technical advice. The role also requires someone who is comfortable dealing with a range of people, from insurers and loss adjusters to contractors and policyholders, and who can communicate confidently and professionally throughout the claims process.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Professional certifications, such as MRICS
  • Strong knowledge of property surveying techniques, building materials, and construction practices.
  • Experienced in surveying both domestic and commercial properties.
  • Experienced in interpreting insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling processes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Proactive – ensuring KPI’s and SLAs are met.

What’s on Offer?

In return, you will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Car Allowance or Company Car
  • Discretionary company bonus
  • 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days with long service, plus additional one day for your birthday
  • 5 % Contributory Pension
  • Private Health Care
  • Death in Service Benefit
  • Enhanced maternity, adoption, paternity and sick pay
  • Electric Vehicle scheme
  • Career development and progression opportunities
  • Access to GP service
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Long Service Holiday and reward scheme
  • Holiday purchase scheme
  • We care about our employees opinions and have an employee forum to implement ideas and initiatives to make us a great place to work.
