Long Term Futures is seeking a dedicated and resilient Inclusion Mentor to join a welcoming secondary school in Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who are struggling to engage within mainstream education, helping them overcome barriers to learning and successfully reintegrate into the classroom.

Working closely with the school's pastoral, inclusion, and safeguarding teams, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom. This position is ideal for someone who is patient, calm under pressure, and passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people.

About the Role

Working alongside teaching staff, pastoral leaders, and senior leadership, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils at risk of exclusion or disengagement
  • Supporting pupils in the school's inclusion unit and helping them successfully reintegrate into mainstream lessons
  • Building positive, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations
  • Supporting pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies
  • Using restorative approaches and behaviour management techniques to de-escalate challenging situations
  • Monitoring pupil progress, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to relevant staff
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support positive outcomes
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or similar setting
  • Confident supporting young people with behavioural, social, emotional, or mental health needs
  • Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Able to establish trust while maintaining professionalism, consistency, and appropriate boundaries
  • Proactive, adaptable, and committed to helping pupils achieve positive outcomes
  • Passionate about supporting young people to re-engage with education
